Mission Statement

The American Society for Cytotechnology (ASCT), as the collective voice for the profession, is committed to defining and promoting Cytotechnoloy by;

  • Developing practice standards
  • Monitoring and evaluating legislative/regulatory issues and emerging technologies affecting the profession; and
  • Providing unique, practical educational opportunities pertinent to the practice of cytotechnology.

Strategic Plan

GOAL #1:  Communicate relevant, timely information to the practicing cytology professional.

Strategies & Initiatives:

  • Provide regular publications
  • Maintain website with current ASCT information.
  • Use website to provide relevant links to other resources.
  • Utilize the regional directors to foster two-way communication
     

GOAL #2:  Provide educational programs and materials that are of high quality, affordable and accessible to the cytology professional.

Strategies & Initiatives:

  • Produce publications that are relevant to the practicing cytotechnologist.
  • Respond to practice needs by providing practical materials for preparing for inspections by regulatory agencies.
  • Provide an annual quality continuing education program that is affordable, accessible and comprehensive in a relaxed peer environment.
  • Provide avenues for cytotechnology students to participate in the annual continuing education program.

GOAL #3:  Advocate professional standards for cytotechnologists.

Strategies & Initiatives:

  • Establish on-going relationships with state and regional cytology societies to identify professional concerns.
  • Collaborate with national professional organizations to participate in legislative and regulatory activities.
  • Assure quality cytology practices in the laboratory by reviewing, evaluating, and communicating survey data.
  • Provide qualified ASCT members the opportunity to participate in the survey and regulatory process.
